People generally love food, and many love nature. So why not pair the two? Better than Birdseed is a recipe book pairing food photography with bird photography. The idea stemmed from birds having different diets; some eat fruit and berries, and others eat seeds. Originally, all the recipes were going to be made of ingredients birds can eat, though, in the end, it was decided against due to time constraints. Instead, the recipes were based on their colour palettes in relation to the chosen bird.
In my third year of college, I decided to rework this recipe book based on the critique I received. The typographic style was refined, and now the headings use a serifed typeface. An ampersand in a slightly darker colour was used in the recipe title to make the book more sophisticated. By removing the awkward card below the list of ingredients, more white space was created, and the layout itself is more open and welcoming.
Overall, a lot was learned through reworking this project, mainly that skills are constantly improving. Benefits to the user include learning about different bird species and many recipes.
